Black Men United launched it new program Omaha Real Men Read at Mt. View Elemetary in Omaha Ne on Tuesday May 4th. Omaha Real Men Read brings African American men into the classrooms and we read to our children specifically in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades to show them that REAL men do read, REAL men do value an education. Statistics show that when men read to our youth, it improves their expository writing skills, improves literacy and test scores improve. We hope to inspire our children with a lifelong love of reading. Joining me tonight will be some of our readers who volunteer their time to be reader/MENtors at Mt. View. Dell Gines, Executive Director of the Urban Omaha Health Connections and John Ewing, Douglas County Treasurer to talk about what this program means to them and what they believe it brings to our children and the importance of a positive male role model being in the lives of our children.
