Talk about a deep dive! HPV oral cancers sound mundane but there's so much misinformation and so much scary stuff about oral cancer that Shirley Gutkowsk is going deep to lean about it at the cellular level. Get your pen!

After practicing dentistry for three years Dr. John Basile began his oral pathology education at Harvard Dental School and in the Department of Pathology at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Basile was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, MD, for five years before his current position as an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Dental School in the Department of Oncology and Diagnostic Sciences.

At Maryland, Dr. Basile’s lab uses oral cancer as a model to study growth and invasion of malignancy and tumor-induced angiogenesis. He is also a member of the Molecular and Structural Biology branch of the Marlene and Stuart Greenebaum Cancer Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the practice director at Oral Pathology Consultants in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Basile has been a board certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist since 2008.
