    From First and Last Song
Georgie Porgie, named one of Billboard magazine’s “Top 10 Dance/Club Play Artists of the Decade”; EJ Flavors, the official blogger for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards (R&B Category); and Doug Ramsay (Fresh), the official blogger for the 52nd Grammy Awards (Jazz Category) are the featured guests on this special two-hour episode of “Sunday Brunch: The First and Last Song.” Inquiring minds like Val Oliver (Host), Neil Alexander (Co-Host) and Jon Hansen (Guest Co-Host, from PI Social Media Network and host of PI Business Network on Blog Talk Radio) want to know: How did they become involved in the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards? What is the current state-of-affairs in each of their particular genre areas? Who are EJ’s and Fresh’s picks for the Grammys? Guest interviews always begin and end with the same two questions: What is the first song you remember hearing? What is the last song you want to hear before your life ends here on earth? These questions, and others that explore more firsts, lasts and in-betweens, are designed to engage the guests, audience, and hosts from compelling, thought-provoking, and life-affirming perspectives. "Sunday Brunch" feat. Russel Blake, Elli Fordyce and Guest Host, EJ Flavors (IN EDITING FOR PODCAST)

    From First and Last Song
“Sunday Brunch: The First and Last Song” features bass musician, author, educator, and minister Russel Blake, an ambassador for children around the world who is simultaneously releasing a new Jazz CD and book we will discuss. As a Bassist, a short list of with whom he has performed/toured/ recorded includes five years as the exclusive Bassist for Jazz Great Sonny Rollins, Pharoah Sanders, Hugh Masekela, Paquito D’Rivera, Chaka Kahn, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Harry Belafonte, Machito Y Su Orquesta, Dave Valentin, Michel Camillo, Sam Rivers, Wynton Marsalis, Melba Moore, Brenda Russell, and Cybill Shepherd; and Elli Fordyce, actress, educator, and a jazz vocalist whose album “Songs Spun of Gold” attracted Grammy Award pre-nominations for 2009 in six different categories. Here is what one of many reviewers had to say about Elli and her music: “There are moments in time when, if we are lucky, we are given the opportunity to recognize a person with an elan, panache and joi de vivre that is 'heads above the maddening crowd; and when I saw your pretty, preserved, angelic, savvy face and that you are 70, it blew my mind . . . but when I listened to you just levitating and swinging in that hip, jive way, I knew, Elli, that you are NOW and bring yesterday to people that forgot they would ever hear magic except on a record or a CD.” EJ Flavors, a popular, seasoned podcaster and an official blogger for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards is our guest co-host. Join us for what is certain to be a “Sunday Brunch” to remember.

    Tech Difficulties with Debut Show

Ahhh . . . I enjoyed working with Neil on this show even though there were very irritating TECHNICAL issues with headphone feedback resulting in half the show being us trying to troubleshoot. That lead to dead air in places and reality-radio happening on the spot instead of using the time to talk about music as planned.

I'm editing lots of silence & reality troubleshooting out of the episode now, and will upload when I'm done. It's sounding MUCH BETTER.

Thank you to everyone who listened, called, and let us know about tech issues via the chat room.

    Have a great day/evening, Val

Literary Arts Integrated Into "Sunday Brunch: The First and Last Song" Format

"Sunday Brunch: The First and Last Song" integrates the literary arts into the program format.

Val Oliver, the producer and host of the blog talk radio show is an avid reader, writer/ghostwriter and has discovered a way to integrate her interest in the literary arts into the show format. She plans to use quotes from the books she is reading or has read as a muse to help form program content beginning with the very first show, to formulate questions for the guest music artists, and has decided to invite music artists who are also authors to the show.

"I listen to everything--and not just to the music itself, but to the hearts behind it"
-- from The Shack by William P. Young

"This has happened as a great surprise to me. The idea formed naturally while planning the first show and reading "The Shack" by William P. Young, stated Val. "Also, I want to credit Monica Hart, Business Manager for music artist Russel Blake. She informed me that Russel is having a book published and released at the same time as his new CD. It makes perfect sense to inquire if music artists are also authors when performing booking queries." Many artists have multiple talent in more than one fine arts area, and this approach honors and respects this reality. Russel Blake will be the guest music artist and author on Sunday, February 7, 2010.

The first show airs on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 3:00pm EST.
