  REVERSE- This week, with the help of our special guest Vernon Yates, of Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation in Florida,  we concluded our two week episode on the illegal smuggling of animals. This is a huge problem world-wide, in the US alone it is reported that illegal wildlife shipments generate six billion dollars annually. This makes it second only to drugs in profitability!  We MUST get involved and speak out so that we can effect change! Up to 30% of ALL the illegal traffic, about $4 billion worth,  goes through LAX each year. This flow is monitored by TRAFFIC USA, a division of the World Wildlife Fund and includes both plants and animals. While there are 200 agricultural and customs inspectors, the wildlife facility has only ten inspectors.  This is so bassakwards!  We need to have this changed, and the only way to do that is to ban together and speak out!
  
  We also learned that the case of Javier Cervantes, a man that opened his home (in Mexico) to stray animals, only to have his home broken into by several masked men who, wielding machetes, wreaked carnage, killing 40 animals and badly injuring many of the 30 that lived, has been gaining notoriety. Many protesters have staged memorials and spread the word about this horrific event.   • -Sahara Rain has graciously donated one of their newly released cd's to the CAR shop!
  • Since they want to donate as much money as possible to the animals, we are considering setting a minimum and then having the highest donater take the cd. We will be ironing out the details in our next admin meeting, so I will let you know the details next week!
    

  
  
  DRIVE; Next weeks show is all about the food. Dog food that is. Should you make it yourself? If you do, is there anything that you need to know? Anything special you need to feed your dogs? Is there really food that will make your dog sick?  We will have a special guest to help feed us the right information, so get ready to call in with your questions.
  
  OVERDRIVE;  This is a new section dedicated to charitable requests. This weekly section will list non-profit animal charities that are in need of funds and/or products for upcoming events. Members are encouraged to review these requests and help where they can!

Once filled out, we will review your request and place it here, on our website, on our yahoo group page, or maybe even mention it on air! ( we reserve the right to decline to advertise any event that does not meet our requirements). We want to organize all financial requests so that our members are not overwhelmed, so we have created guidelines for publication of these events. This area is dedicated to the 501c3 large events.
  
  

  • *The Carolinas Jack Russel Group will be holding their annual
    fundraiser, a JRTCA sanctioned trial, on May 2 and 3 in Sumter, South
    Carolina. They are expecting approximately 350 entries in the show,
    and will be having a raffle fund-raiser on May 2 at the trial site.
    Proceeds from the raffle will go to benefit the Carolinas Jack Russell
    Rescue. Their organization helps displaced and abused dogs, and they
    are in need of product donations for this raffle. Please visit them at

    *Its Meow or Never will be holding a Paws for Cause auction in May or
    June. They are hoping to raise enough money to open a new adoption
    center. They are currently asking for donations of products, services,
    or gift certificates to be auctioned off over the net. They will
    provide donators with advertising by placing contributor links on

    *Muttville, a non profit charity out of SanFranCisco, California will
    be hosting a very special fund-raising event 6/13/09 called "Moolah for
    Mutts". They are pulling out all the stops in order to fund the
    rescue, veterinary care, and home placement of senior dogs. This
    silent auction, live auction, raffle, wine tasting, food & beverage
    event will take place in a church that has been converted into a home,
    and was featured on an episode of "This Old House". It stands to be
    one very memorable event! They are looking for individual or groups
    that would be willing to donate $100 cash to help sponsor the event,
    in turn they will be advertised as sponsors. Can't do that? They are
    also in need of items for the raffle, and you can place your business

                     *Greyhound Pets of America - Tampa Bay Chapter is asking for donations                        of items they can raffle and auction off at various events during the year                        to support their care and placement of retired racing dogs. If you                                           have something that you'd like to donate please check out their web site                       www.greyhoundpets.com 
                    They are  currently looking for raffle items for the upcoming trials, contact them if                   you have something to donate. These items need to be in their hands by             
                    March 27, 2009.  
                           
  

  •                 * The Bartow county animal control,  located at 50 Ladd’s Mountain Rd  in                                Cartersville, GA 30120 is a kill shelter. Each week they kill numerous dogs                    and cats. They do not have the personel or the funds to list any of these animals                     on petfinder. If you live in this area and have a small amount of time, please                      go there & take pictures and upload them to petfinders. Of course, if you can
  •                  adopt or foster an animal from there, please do that too! They kill animals every                 Tuesday.

    
                  *Virtually every city in the USA has an animal control place that kills their collected
                   animals each week. Few, if any of these take the time and funds to try and get      
                   these animals adopted. Taking an hour or so a week to post pictures of                                  animals about to loose their lives would make a HUGE difference. YOU can                 make a difference!

  Bark out loud, bark out proud! Please contact the following links, write or email all  the officials at the addresses listed below. We need to shine a light and draw attention to the horrific way that they are handling the Javier Cervantes case! Remember that the squeaky wheel gets the grease and that these people will not want their lack of concern being publicized. They do NOT want to loose tourists. We can positively impact this investigation if we show them that we CARE about the animals, as well as the humans!  If we all stand together we won't fall!
