We all have seen the footage by now, and it is some of the wildest foolishness we’ve seen! A teenage female high school student is aggressively manhandled, grabbed, slammed on her neck, toss across the room and then violently arrested by her school resource (police) officer for violating cell phone privileges and “causing a disturbance in class.”
There are multiple factors involved in this entire situation. From the child’s “disruption” to the police factor in this school, to the violence perpetrated on these children! Where should our focus and criticism be in all of this? On our parenting and child parameters? Or on our institutions and specifically police brutality? Did the girl deserve what happened to her in any way? Or did the cop completely mishandle this situation and abuse her and his power?
What are some of your perspectives and questions about what you’ve seen and heard? How does this make you feel as a citizen?
