The Dallas Cowboys of old can say hello to the Dallas Cowboys of new tonight.
In a game that would decide which team takes over the number one position in the NFC East, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in a defensive battle, 20-16.
After starting the season 2-2, the Cowboys have won four games in a row and not sit at 6-2 and atop the touch NFC East.
So how bout them Cowboys eh?!
Many, including me, thought that this game would be close and the team with the ball at the end of the game would probably emerge victorious.
That team just so happened to be the Cowboys.
Dallas struck first in the game as Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett threw a new wrinkle in the offense as he set running back Tashard Choice up in the wildcat.
A few possessions and a Donovan McNabb interception later, the Cowboys were in business.
From the Philadelphia two yard line, Choice takes the direct snap in for the first score of the game.
Dallas 7, Eagles 0.
The Eagles would answer the Dallas touchdown with two straight David Akers field goals to bring the score to 7-6, Cowboys remain up.
A subplot in this game was the amount of injuries suffered on both teams. For the Eagles they were without star running back Brian Westbrook, lost starting left tackle Jason Peter to a rolled ankle for a shot time and the list continued.
Cowboys running back Marion Barber was nursing a store thumb, center Andre Gurode left the game with a rolled ankle, and Terrance Newman stepped away for a few plays with an undisclosed injury.
If that isn’t a perfect representation of an NFC East rival match-up then I’m not sure what is.
The ‘Boys and Eagles would continue their defensive assault upon each other as both teams notched four sacks and forced at least one turnover.
In the end it was the Cowboys defense that would cause the most damage. Donovan McNabb threw two key interceptions that set-up ten Dallas Cowboys points which proved to be the difference in the end.
The Cowboys came out of Philly with a 20-16 victory in a game that the defense is sure to proud of.
This Dallas Cowboys team would have lost a game like this last season.
Wide receiver Roy Williams caught five passes for 75 yards only a few short days after complaining about his role in the Cowboys offense.
Defensive tackle Jay Ratliff logged two sacks against Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and for the Cowboys failed to reach 100 yards on the ground.
