Mercury retrograde in Aquarius and Capricorn

Errare humanum est, sed in perseverare diabolicum:

Past month or so with Mercury retrograde was the time to reflect, to introspect and to analyze. Mercury rules communication and information technology, therefore when it's retrograde, things happen to remind us that we are not as careful as we think we are. Computers get more viruses than usual, communication systems slow down or crash, electronics and machinery break, people make ridiculous spelling errors and other kinds of mistakes. This is not a good time to sign any contracts. We tend to make accounting boo-boo's and to miscalculate things. Errare humanum est!

But we also have a tendency to meet people from our past "by accident". Of course, there are no accidents. Unresolved karma comes back and this is the time to correct what needs to be corrected.

Mercury retrograde began at 10:44 am CST January 11, 2009 and ends at 1:11 pm CST February 1.

Please note that we had the inferior conjunction of Mercury-Sun at 1 degree Aquarius at 9:59 am CST, an hour prior to the Presidential inauguration on January 20. We all know what happened - the news reported: "Preceding his inaugural address, Obama, perhaps overwhelmed by the moment, forgot a line in which he had to repeat while his hand was on the bible..." So Mr. President had to had to repeat the Oath later. This is so typical for Mercury retrograde!

Mercury retrograde will remind us that our thought process needs to slow down from time to time and that we do not always have complete control over things. We are not our thoughts. Thinking is a part of us and not our essence.

It reminded us this month that we need to communicate our thoughts and words clearly, instead of assuming anything. Mercury teaches us to be careful, detailed, organized and clean. Its path through the sign of Aquarius points out that friendships and associations are very important at this time, as well as communication with people. Capricorn on the other hand speaks about our bosses, responsibilities and authoroties, our government, our ambition and goals.

How do we communicate these days? We e-mail each other, we call sometimes, we text and we send messages via web sites like Myspace or Facebook. My daughter says to her friends, "Myspace me". That is a verb these days!
 
An Aquarian friend of mine lost her cell phone the other day, hours before Mercury turned retro. Someone took it and he or she had no intentions to return the phone to my friend. We have called and texted the number. The person answered the line but said nothing to us, silently listening to our desperate pleas to return the cell phone.
 
Another friend's cell phone died a few weeks ago, for no apparent reason. She had to purchase a new phone, pay for it and reinstall her long address book again. What a frustration!
What is the karmic lesson?

Can we break with our old habits that we don't like or need any more? Can we communicate differently? Instead of texting, can we go back to the old days and actually visit a friend? What is the message we want to send? Maybe we should develope some new way of communication?
 
My Aquarian friend has got a brand new cell phone. She signed up for a different contract with the phone company, detaching herself from her old phone number and the account that was owned by her ex-boyfriend. They are finally separated. This Mercury helped them finalize the relationship and break the last connection: their joint phone bill.

My other friend who had to reinstall her address book again remembered that we once mentioned Mercury retrograde and that's why she contacted me. We have not seen or emailed each other for several years. Mercury retrograde helped us reconnect again!

And now it is time to go back to "normal" again. February 1st, Mercury is turning direct, which means we have several months again to practice our "good karma" or, should we say "dharma" and listen to its delicate messages. If we miss the lesson, it will surely come back to us at the next Mercury retrograde cycle.
