“Symphony No. 1: For centuries, the persecution of various ethnic groups has forced younger generations to separate from their elders and seek safety and freedom in foreighn lands. Despite differences in historical circumstances, the tragedies and triumphs of the experience are essentially the same. It is the story of untold numbers of families. It is the story of this symphony.” Albert Hurwit

Hurwit’s symphony has received wide acclaim and has been recorded by the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra. The music has been performed by symphonic orchestras in Maryland, Texas, and Connecticut. Hurwit was selected as the winner of the 2009 American Composer Competition. Hurwit was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1931 where he still lives. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Tufts Medical School.
