You have undoubtedly heard about the resolution that passed in Congress, calling for an official apology for slavery. The resolution was introduced in 2007 by Memphis' own--Congressman Steve Cohen. Across the nation, folks are debating over whether or not such an apology was needed so many years after slavery was abolished. Here in Memphis, though, folks are debating over Steve Cohen's possible motives for introducing such a resolution. After all, this is an election year and he needs to secure the African-American vote in his predominantly black district.
