These children are driven beyond the ability to cope with systematic abuse and threats, seeing suicide as the only escape from torture. On today's show, Samantha and Terry discuss: - what Extreme Bullying is - what to do if your child is a bully - what to do if your child is being bullied - legal issues and more. Special Guest: Jeff Lasater www.jeremiah51.com Jeff Lasater knows the pain of extreme bullying first-hand. His 14-year-old son Jeremiah shot himself in a school bathroom on October 20, 2008 after years of bullying. Jeff has since set up a non-profit group called “Jeremiah Project 51” to spread the word about bullying and pressure school boards to take it seriously.00:30:00Connecting The Dotsnobullying, school,Karate Kid,crime, internetA study performed at Yale University in 2008 found that victims of bullying are 2 to 9 times more likely to have suicidal thoughts than other children. It has been over two decades since the earliest reports surfaced of allegations of sexual and physical abuse involving members of the Christian Brothers at the Mount Cashel Orphanage in St. John’s Newfoundland and only 8 years since the Boston Globe covered the subject blowing the issue wide open. Even the Pope is connected and under scrutiny as to whether he participated in the years of the Church hiding priests and covering up reports. The big story is not the fact that children were abused, but instead the constant cover-up by the church. We learn from our resident reporter Cindy Burgess that this issue does not rest in the past, but is still very much part of the present. Tune in on Sunday June 13th at 2 pm (Pacific standard time) to hear how those who we expect to be of the highest moral fiber, can commit such immoral crimes. Guests: Dr. Rene Sorrentino is a clinical instructor at Harverd Medical school and heads up the Institute for Sexual Wellness (www.instituteforsexualwellness.org). Dr. Sorrentino discusses the difference between pedophiles and child molesters and how they relate to abuse of children in the clergy. She highlights why opportunistic pedophiles may be drawn to the priesthood and what psychological tests the Catholic Church can utilize to better assess the suitability of future priests. Dr. Jaime Romo is a survivor of abuse while he was a young teen at the Archdiocese of Las Angeles and has dedicated his life to helping survivors thrive and heal from past abuse. He works to help religious groups create safer environments for children and prevent child sexual abuse. Dr. Romo discusses the unique dichotomy of clergy abuse and how the environment can create a lifelong shame and silence among victims. 00:45:00Connecting The Dotsnopedophiles, catholic, abuse,Religion,CashelThis weeks episode of Connecting the Dots tackles the very sensitive and controversial issue of Pedophiles in the Priesthood. Bad things happen in three’s even for the toughest boys on the block. 1. April 17th – Strikeforce out of control after fight brawl 2. April 26th - Tito Ortiz arrested for domestic assault 3. May 8th – Daley sucker punches Koscheck In today’s environment where politicians are arguing against allowing the MMA in their cities, and true blue fans are frustrated with the outbursts of their Hero’s in and out of the ring, is the pre-fight pump backfiring and turning disciplined athletes into street hoodlums? MMA fighters have been battling for respect, acceptance and their own place in organized sports for years. From the days of underground fights to today’s multi-million dollar pay-per-view events – MMA promoters have made a killing on creating an environment that some say has turned from respect and honor to uncontrolled violence.
