I would like to suggest that we change strategies and declare peace instead of war. This is geared to focus attention on the increasing rates of violence in the workplace and respond to acts of war such as sexual, physical and verbal assaults, and yes, cases of murder, increasingly on the rise at work. Let’s face it, war is seldom a surprise. There is usually some dispute or sign of conflict leading up to war. This means that organizations need to take a closer look at some of the overt and covert conflicts and disputes taking place at work, such as: bullying, harassment, verbal threats, rumors, gossip, isolation and defamation, abuse of authority, unfair working conditions and overwork. These issues are often at the root of more grievous and deadly acts of violence. Failing to address these issues in the workplace is akin to failing the workforce and to putting everyone in your organization at risk.
