Cheat: (verbTo break a rule or law... To take something from someone by lying... To prevent someone from having something that he or she deserves...

Cheating... The meaning of the word is pretty cut and dry when it comes to a crib sheet for a test or memorizing all the question cards in Trivial Pursuit—you know who you are. However, once it’s applied it to a relationship, lines begin to blur and the once black and white definition starts turning a little…gray. Simply put, the term becomes interpretive. Example:

“Have you ever cheated on anyone?”

“Well…define ‘cheated.’”

What cheating is to one person may be different than what it means to another. What if you flirt with someone when your partner isn’t there...cheating? Touching someone else—sure that qualifies, but in what capacity? How about sharing an emotional connection that you don’t have with your spouse, is that “going outside of the marriage”? What if you fantasize about orgies that you’re partner isn’t invited to—is that cheating? Gray, gray, and more gray.

Relationship expert and life coachPati Root of Root Dynamics, is here to answer questions, debunk myths, and give advice. If you’ve ever had any experience with cheating—been cheated on, done the cheating, had the urge, or if you simply don’t know how you feel about it—this is the show for you!
