After I started my podcast using the theme "Common Sense", some people were critical. Some said common sense is code for not doing enough research. Some even accused me of not having common sense. So I started asking people, what is common sense? The answers were all over the place. There were as many different answers as people I asked. It dawned on me, people really have no idea what common sense is. If you ever watch the news or scroll through social media you probably know what I'm talking about. In the beginning I defined common sense as the ability to use logic and reason. But that's too vague and I set out to examine what it really means. I decided to publish it in a short book I call, How To Get Common Sense Even If You Don't Know What It Is. Today I want to share some of the insights from that book. That some people are rich and some are poor is explainable even though it follows misery and oppression. Selfish preservation is what keeps a man from being so poor he's destitute, but it's also what makes him fearful of taking the risks needed to be wealthy. 1. The problem of kings, authoritarian government and what we can learn from that today. 2. This also includes a fantastic history of government. Understanding this history puts a lot of modern issues into perspective. 3. All of this also reflects the influence of God and religion on government and politics. It’s a message to the American people. It’s quite possibly one of the most profound letters ever written. How is it relevant today? Addresses the issue of division.Uses reason to validate the other side.Lays out a simple truth everyone can understand. Then he makes the basis for his argument, principles. He identifies the importance of those principles. "The matters affecting America are important to all of humanity. Many of these issues have ramifications and rely on principles that affect people around the world." The future of America is in large part the future of the world. It’s a responsibility we would do well remember. If you've ever tried to read it you know what I'm talking about. It was one of, if not the most influential books in American history. But it was written over 200 years ago and the old English it's written in, is nearly impossible to understand. You have to read everything five times to make any sense of it and even then, you’re lucky if you understand it. There’re words we don’t use any more. The speaking style is basically backwards how we speak now, and the whole thing, is written in run on sentences. Try reading that. Try reading a book that completely turns up side down the way you would normally speak, with words sprinkled in that you don’t know the meaning of, all written in sentences as long as a paragraph.   Read: Common Sense by Thomas Paine In Modern English The Best Way To Read Common Sense by Thomas Paine: https://thebookoncommonsense.com/common-sense-by-thomas-paine/ 00:07:00The Common Sense PodcastnoCommon sense, common sense thomas paine, common sense thomas paine pdf, thomas paine common sense text, why was common sense importantin a language you can understand.65139afc-8e1a-4579-8450-4eeddc753803Why Is Common Sense Still Important Today?https://www.blogtalkradio.com/commonsensepodcast/2019/02/04/why-is-common-sense-still-important-todayEducationhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/commonsensepodcast/2019/02/04/why-is-common-sense-still-important-today/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/commonsensepodcast/2019/02/04/why-is-common-sense-still-important-todayMon, 04 Feb 2019 10:00:00 GMTWhy Is Common Sense Still Important Today? On this episode of the Common Sense Podcast: Why is Common Sense by Thomas Paine still important today? It was written over 200 years ago to address the issue of independence from Britain. Why is it still important in American government and politics today? Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense before we we're even a country. At its core it was a call for independence from Britain, but it was also a book about freedom and the proper construction of government. It's a philosophical debate. Because of that, not everybody’s going to understand or agree with it. But, it will expose the underlying problems that we see in politics today. To understand the relevance of Common Sense, it’s critical to understand why it was so important in the first place. Read:Why Is Common Sense Still Important Today? It's a question that isn't easily answered in a few words. It's not an easy question to answer and because of the philosophical nature of it it's not something that's answered in a few words or few sentences. It's something worthy of study and discussion. It helps to look at examples of common sense and example of common sense in daily life. It's something that impacts every area of our lives. Work, politics, religion, raising children, dealing with people, surviving and thriving. All of these things are prone to reasoning. Sound judgement. It's the way to live a satisfying life. Some people have related common sense to stoicism. And it's true many great philosophers were stoics. Common sense is as important today as it’s ever been. Some people say common sense is dead. Why is that? Maybe it’s technology, maybe it’s the way we look at things differently, but it doesn’t mean the basic truth of common sense is any less important. I can help you with all that. I'm Christopher Scott, I've written books about common sense, I'm the voice of the Common Sense Podcast and the Christopher Scott Show Radio Talk Show Podcast. This project got started while I was writing the Re-Told Story of Common Sense by Thomas Paine. It started as a side project and turned into a year long, grueling project. I had to completely immerse myself in the book. I wasn’t just reading it, I was translating it which required painstakingly going through every word and every point to completely understand it. During the course of that work I developed a question. What is common sense? I know the dictionary defines it as sound judgement in practical matters but that doesn’t really explain what it is. That’s when I began writing the The Book On Common Sense. To be able to explain the philosophy of common sense. What common sense means in society and government, how we justify our opinions and practical advice for sound living. That’s my passion to share the philosophy of common sense so you can develop yours.  www.thebookoncommonsense.com www.christopherscottshow.com https://thebookoncommonsense.com/2018/12/23/common-sense-podcast/ 00:16:00The Common Sense PodcastnoCommon sense, common sense thomas paine, what is common sense, why was common sense important, common sense examplesAbout The Common Sense Podcast4e3e11ff-0c32-429f-93fd-b6222e9e0ad7The Book On Common Sensehttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/commonsensepodcast/2018/12/31/the-book-on-common-senseEducationhttps://www.blogtalkradio.com/commonsensepodcast/2018/12/31/the-book-on-common-sense/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/commonsensepodcast/2018/12/31/the-book-on-common-senseMon, 31 Dec 2018 10:00:00 GMTThe Book On Common SenseWhat is common sense?
