  St. Benedict's 12 Steps of Humility

  Did you know that the first 12-step program was written in the early 6th century? As part of his rule for monks, St. Benedict emphasized the virtue of humility. Benedict envisioned 12 degrees, or steps of humility, a ladder that we are to climb in order to attain heaven. This week, after a rundown of news items, we'll look at chapter seven of the Rule of St. Benedict, and begin to climb the ladder.

  Benedict Welcomes Barack

  Commander Craig with the latest on President Obama's visit to the Vatican and some first thoughts on the Pope's new social encyclical, "Caritas in Veritate" ("Charity in Truth"). We'll also try to understand why a former papal theologian to John Paul II is comparing Obama's "realistic" approach to relations with Islam and to the abortion issue to the writings of Pope Paul VI, Vatican II, and St. Thomas Aquinas. Finally some readings from The Rule of St. Benedict on the memorial of the father of Western monasticism. Special guests: The Raritan Valley Redemptorist Ramblers and their musical setting of "Caritas in Veritate".
