Antoine Christopher Smith was born on August 1, 1992 in Euclid, Ohio. He comes from a wide range of family history in music that once indulged very heavily in local bands as musicians, singers, dancers, composers, managers, and teachers. His main influences are his father, Robert Lee Smith III, who is a bass player, lead guitarist, trumpeter and pianist. His mother, Carolyn Fuentes who is a published writer, singer, keyboardist and drummer. His grandmother who is a gospel singer. His mother's sister Patricia, who is a violinist and plays the bass and last but certainly not least his grandfather, the late Rev. B. L. Miles who was a singer, and played the rhyme guitar, organ, and piano in his church.

His grandfather gifted Antoine with a keyboard, which is to him a cherished gift.

It is no wonder this young man is so talented!

Antoine also atributes his success to his faith and is a role model to his peers.

Antoine is a drummer and a as he puts it, a ”dabbling” keyboardist that composes and plays mainly, contemporary jazz.

In addition, he composes other genres as well including music for video games.

His latest CD is "Daydream" released under the "Turn on Records" label and "Mythical" and "City in the Sea" are yet to be released.

His desire is to enter into an Audio Production and Engineering program.

Join us as we talk to this mature, focused talented young man about his life and future plans at BlogTalkRadio.com/ColoredPeople on November 19, 2009 at 7pm PST/9pm CST/10pm EST

Christopher Batten - A Lifetime of Colors

Christopher Batten was born and raised in Detroit, MI.

Chris was influenced by his talented family, including his father, and began drawing at the tender age of four.

In middle school his teachers cultivated his talents when he was exposed to various techniques including opaque painting which helped prepare him for a rigorous High School Art Program.

After admission into Detroit’s Cass Technical High School, he decided to make the pursuit of Art his lifetime goal and went on to complete one year of study at the Columbus College of Art and Design and four years of study at Detroit’s College for Creative Studies.

He received his BFA in Illustration from the College for Creative Studies in May 2006.

Extensive study of Art History and the influence of various Art Professors would play a vital part in helping him develop his current style, which depends heavily on the use of iconography and vivid color.

Throughout his journeys as an Artist he has always sought to use his work as a tool for addressing certain societal issues. Through the use of symbols (both familiar and unfamiliar), in conjunction with the figure, he aims to educate the viewer on something new or deepen their understanding of things they may have previously encountered.

Overall, his work is directed at achieving some means of social commentary. His goal as an Artist will always be to continue to use his work as a vehicle for enlightenment.

Christopher works primarily in oils or acrylic and occasionally incorporates collage into his work. His influences include Henry O. Tanner, Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, John Singer Sargent, Diego Velasquez, Frank Duveneck...

He stays busy and his 2009 Exhibitions, so far are:
Mano a Mano (Reggae vs. Hip Hop), 5 Spot, Atlanta GA
Song for my Father, Artrages Gallery, Detroit MI

    The Colors Of Music - #2 Show (July 16 - 7pm Pacific/10pm Eastern) - Artist Profiles

We are proud to present the following talented ColoredPeople.net artists:

    Dj Gary T
    - He Hosts "The Dusties Party" on Thursday's from 9pm-12am EST. The Dusties Party spins the best and rarest of Soul, Funk, Jazz, and Blues. The best 3-hour party happening on this side of the airwaves. Gary and Mario hosted a tribute to the late Michael Jackson and we will share with you some portions of their show on WHPK 88.5fm Chicago!

    NeoSoulJah
    - Discovered at an International Music Conference by Stellar/Dove award winner recording artist Babbie Mason. She has a vocal range from 2nd tenor to mezzo-soprano reminds us of the dying art of real singing. Now teamed with Producers Mike “Dakhta” Loyd of MLee Productions, Ace Boogie of Nappy Groove Records, and contributing composers/producers Brian O’Neal of BCO Media and award winning Rob Hardt from The Candy Factory in Europe [Frank McCombs], Neo is finishing up her long awaited debut CD.

    Hassan Khan
    - Hassan’s history goes back to the mid 60’s when this master bass player, at the time in his teens, was playing with “The First Family of Soul”, The Five Stairsteps, best known for their 70’s song “O-o-h Child”, and in the early 70’s Hassan was playing with another legendary family, the gospel, soul and R&B singing group, The Staple Singers. He was married for some years to the internationally known singer, Chaka Khan, during which time he was instrumental in developing her into the dynamic vocalist that she is today.

    Gem Avery
    - Gliding effortlessly from contralto to altissimo, Gem Avery’s 5 octaves is nourishment for enlightened music aficionados worldwide. Heavily influenced by Sade, Minnie Riperton, Nancy Wilson, Dinah Washington, and Betty Wright Gem's artistic eminence evolved to share common ingredients with several legendary female trail blazers. Her sound burns with the vocal intensity of Anita Baker, it speaks with the vocal dexterity of Chaka Khan, yet it brags with the sassy sincerity of Erykah Badu. For listeners who crave a delicate taste that will more than soothe picky palates, Gem Avery’s perfectly seasoned art is sweet enough for dessert yet savory enough for the main course. The sound – the feel, rather – of her voice is powerful yet subtle, gritty yet smooth, soothing yet electrifying, original yet nostalgically familiar... (Reverbnation.com)

    Andre "Versatile" Hunter
    - Versatile has assumed the role as the R&B Jay-Z for his new management team, D-lux Entertainment and all affiliated companies. Singing as a youth that grew into poetic verses transforming into song lyrics and then killa rhymes not to long after is how Versatile got started in the many degrees of music. He is currently working on his solo album titled "Questions & Answers" while being the man behind the music on different artists' albums soon to debut.

    Billy Jones Bluez
    - He is a young man from Arkansas who is truly interested in advancing and extending ‘Great Soul Music' from the Ancient to the Future’ and making sure that it is available for future generations. Billy Jones brings back the Thrill that once belonged to Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. ...A refreshing blast of the really great sound of Healing Blues, Jazz, Funk Music.

Huey Long was a native of Sealy, Texas and enjoyed playing the Ukulele. In 1925 he was shining shoes outside the Rice Hotel in Houston when the banjo player for the Frank Davis Louisiana Jazz Band did not show. Long jumped at the chance to fill in where in the past he only had the opportunity to announce the bands. His life had suddenly changed when he found himself playing in the band with Frank Gibbs on trombone and Punch Miller on trumpet . Join host Tania-Maria Xavier as we remember the life of Huey long.

CORRECTIONS: 7/4/09 Long had four children and was survived by his daughter and two sons. "If I didn't Care" was first 1 million seller as a single for there were no albums at the time.
