Cherene Snow was born and bred in Chicago Il, South side.
She did her first film Cooley High (Played Preach’s younger sister, Tooty Jackson) when she was 13. She studied drama in high school and got a Bachelor’s in Theatre from Illinois State University.
She became a teaching artist while still living in Chicago until her second film The Long Walk Home in 1990, with Whoopi Goldberg and Sissy Spacek. After the film she moved to Los Angeles and began her television career. There she continued to do theatre and films as well. She did four stints on The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno as a sketch artist and got her first big television role as a guest star on Reasonable Doubts with Mark Harmon (NCIS) and Marlee Maitlin (Children of a Lesser God).
After that she got roles in Thea, LA Doctors, Caroline in the City, The Drew Carey Show, Beyond Belief, and the films, Out of Darkness (ABC MOW w/Diana Ross and Beah Richards), Sweet Potato Ride, and City of Angels.
Upon the suggestion of an agent she left LA after 9 years and moved to NYC. She auditioned for a straight 2 years before she got her first theatre gig in NYC. The Last of the Thorntons, an original script by the late Horton Foote. She continued to work throughout her 10 years in NY doing off-broadway/regional theatre and film/television: Law and Order “Suicide Box and Rumble”, Chappell’s Show, Third Watch, The Jury, Goodbye Baby and My Sassy Girl.
She just completed a run of her best role and performance to date: Black Pearl Sings by Frank Higgins at Triad Stage in Greensboro, NC. "Moving, funny and intellectually compelling, this production is one of the best anywhere so far this season." – Houston Press She will be reprising her role at Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell, MA beginning Jan 2010. Music has also become a much bigger and even more exciting part of her life. She honed her talent as a singer and has been writing music in preparation for recording her own CD. She is also a teaching artist in NJ, DC and MA and loves what she does and couldn’t imagine doing anything else but adding on to it.
“It is a blessing to do what you love, what you are passionate about, and get paid for it. Amen” – Cherene Snow
