Antoine Christopher Smith was born on August 1, 1992 in Euclid, Ohio. He comes from a wide range of family history in music that once indulged very heavily in local bands as musicians, singers, dancers, composers, managers, and teachers. His main influences are his father, Robert Lee Smith III, who is a bass player, lead guitarist, trumpeter and pianist. His mother, Carolyn Fuentes who is a published writer, singer, keyboardist and drummer. His grandmother who is a gospel singer. His mother's sister Patricia, who is a violinist and plays the bass and last but certainly not least his grandfather, the late Rev. B. L. Miles who was a singer, and played the rhyme guitar, organ, and piano in his church.

His grandfather gifted Antoine with a keyboard, which is to him a cherished gift.

It is no wonder this young man is so talented!

Antoine also atributes his success to his faith and is a role model to his peers.

Antoine is a drummer and a as he puts it, a ”dabbling” keyboardist that composes and plays mainly, contemporary jazz.

In addition, he composes other genres as well including music for video games.

His latest CD is "Daydream" released under the "Turn on Records" label and "Mythical" and "City in the Sea" are yet to be released.

His desire is to enter into an Audio Production and Engineering program.

    "The Colors of Music" - Show #4 December 3 @ 7pm Pacific/10pm Eastern

Join us as we play my own selections from music groups we have grown to love, these are our very own ColoredPeople.net members:

The Original Lowriders AKA WAR (Chuk Barber - Percussionist/Singer)

In 1997, Chukinho as he is known by close friends, was called up to the “Big Leagues” to play alongside his musical heroes and is now a member of the 70’s and 80’s Funk/Soul Group WAR now called The Original Lowriders.

He is also a first time author and has written a wonderful story of strength and determination, entitled “Dear Xango.” Join us as we chat with Chukinho about his music, his book and his Capoeira school for children called Criancas de Zumbi.

The Fifth Dimension (Lamonte McLemore - Creator/Singer/Songwriter)

In 1960 Lamonte McLemore and Marilyn McCoo together with Fritz Baskett, Rex Middleton, and Lawrence Summers formed their first group "Hi-Fis".

In 1964 Ray Charles took them on a tour and he produced a single by the group, "Lonesome Mood".

In 1967 the now known group The 5th Dimension, consisting of five members, Lamonte McLemore, Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis, Jr., Ron Townson and Florence LaRue, won five Grammy Awards with the song "Up, Up and Away", a top 10 hit.

The Supremes (Susaye Greene - Singer/Songwriter)

Greene sang with Ray Charles' Raelettes and was the only Raelette to sing at Ray's funeral.

She is an acomplished songwritter whose credits include "Free", which she co-wrote for Deneice Williams 1991 "This Is Niecy" album, and "I Can't Help It" co-written with Stevie Wonder for Michael Jackson's 1979 "Off the Wall" album.

If that is not impressive enough, she is noted for being the last official member to join Motown group "The Supremes" from 1976-1977 and has been credited for adding a new dimension to the group's live act with her technical training and five-octave range.

    Antoine Smith

Antoine Christopher Smith was born on August 1, 1992 in Euclid, Ohio.

He comes from a wide range of family history in music that once indulged very heavily in local bands as musicians, singers, dancers, composers, managers, and teachers. His main influences are his father, Robert Lee Smith III, who is a bass player, lead guitarist, trumpeter and pianist.

Antoine's history of the piano/keyboards comes from once “dabbling” with a keyboard gifted to him by his late grandfather.

It is no wonder this young man is so talented!

The story is told that before his grandfather passed in the year of 1998, at the age of 5 years old, Antoine was delivered through the mail a keyboard a day after his grandfather’s burial.

Not knowing at a very young age of what to expect, he gave up his keyboard to his brother, Rick to learn to play. As the years went by, Antoine felt the need to pick up the keyboard at the age of 14 years old to “dabble” his way into composing his very own songs.

After studying the drums at the age of 11 years old to his recent age of 15 years old under his teachers, ( Mr. Janowitz - a graduate of Cleveland State University and Mr. Puin - a graduate of Berkley College), Antoine composed and dedicated his song, Mr. Puin on his first CD, “TWAN” released, Oct. 2, 2007.

Antoine has been playing the “quads” in the marching band, the “snare” and “bass drum” in the stage band, honors band, and orchestra, and the “drum-set” and “congas” in the jazz band at his high school.

Antoine composes and plays mainly, contemporary jazz as well as other genres including music for video games.

His latest CD is "Daydream" released under the "Turn on Records" label and "Mythical" and "City in the Sea" are yet to be released.

    Joe Agu - AfroRhythms.com - Talented ColoredPeople.net Member

At Rhythms, we make drums because of who we are, the sons and daughters of Africa. Handed down from one generation to the next, the secret of drum making lives in the spirit of our culture. And because the drum is the common property of the people, the language of the drum allows all members of every ethnic group to speak with one voice.

"All of our instruments are tuned and manufactured in accordance with traditional methods used by tribal instrument makers in West Africa."

Joe Agu, Founder & President, Rhythms

    Joe Agu - AfroRhythms.com - Talented ColoredPeople.net Member

Born and raised in Enugu, Enugu State Nigeria, Joe is an experienced ethnomusicologist of Afro music and musical instruments.

Arriving in the United States in 1978, his formal education in business and engineering sciences helped him merge his love of ethnic culture and music with manufacturing and business.

In 1994, Joseph Agu, founded Rhythms-Exotic Afro Percussion LLC, to provide cultural responsible products and services to the music industry and music enthusiasts alike. His goal is to educate and ultimately transcend the boundaries of culture, language and geography.

The desire to provide not only cultural understanding through the re-introduction of traditional and lost tribal instruments but to also enhance the "magic" of exotic percussion instruments in general, led Mr. Agu develop and re-engineer tribal music instrument designs with special care taken to ensure that the instruments are manufactured in accordance with the traditional methods used by tribal instrumentmakers of various African communities.

Specializing on Ceramic "Udu" drums which originated from the Igbo ethnic group, he invented the version of "Udu" drum with skin drum head and has been issued a United States Patent (Des. 395, 444).

Mr. Agu is a highly regarded music and fabrication expert and sought after national and international speaker on issues of music, musical instruments and culture for both industry and educational institutions. He often quotes that we make drums because it is the common property of the people and a handed down tradition.

He is currently a member of National Association of Music Manufacturers (NAMM), Percussive Arts Society, and the Columbia College of Chicago - Center for black music research.
