Call in to speak with the host
Press for Democracy (P1FD) is a Coffee Party Radio show that discusses the political issues of the day in a civil, fact-based, and transpartisan manner. Transpartisan is quite different from bi- or non-partisan in the fact that we encourage callers to be passionate about their position, but to listen to those with differing opinions with repsect and a true desire to find common ground on which solutions can be built.
Tonight on P1FD . . .
Martin Luther King’s 85th birthday is celebrated today (although January 15, 1929, was the actual date of his birth).
How far have we come since 1968? How much further do we have to go, toward what end, and what are we actually doing to get there?
Join me, Greg Russak, as I fill in for Dan Aronson tonight at 9pmET on Press for Democracy and let’s try to answer these and other questions together.
Here are some parallels I’ve been thinking about. 46 years after Dr. King’s murder, how is it that we’re back to fighting in some of the very same states once again against voter suppression, and what does that mean in 2014 and 2016?
What about spying? King had J. Edgar Hoover. We have Obama and the NSA. Is this a major concern for you?
Then there’s our generation’s problems such as Citizens United, McCutcheon v FEC, Net Neutrality, TPP and TTIP, and a hyper-partisan, obstructionist 2-party system that only seems to agree when Big Money is on the line.
Is there a root cause to all these issues? If so, what should we be doing about it? I have some ideas. I’d like to hear yours.
