Annabel Park and Eric Byler, founders of the Coffee Party, will host a special 2-hour show about immigration reform. Here is a recent blog by Eric to get the conversation started.
He wrote: "...A rapid infusion of workers will rescue us from the fiscally disastrous ratio of workers to retirees as the Baby Boomer generation retires. That ratio must go up — not down as it is now — if we are going to put our fiscal ship in order, pay down our debt, and balance our budget." Since the collapse of Comprehensive Immigration Reform efforts in Congress in 2006 & 2007, the focus on changes to immigration laws have been at the local and state level with the introduction of Arizona's SB1070-type restrictionist laws. After Arizona passed SB1070 in 2010, other states including Alabama, Georgia and Indiana followed. Annabel and Eric co-directed 9500 Liberty, a critically acclaimed documentary about the politics of immigration policy which followed what happened in Prince William County, Virginia when the county government passed a SB1070-type law 3 years before Arizona. You can watch the film for free here.
What do you think about this film and SB1070-type laws? How do you feel about current reform efforts? Let's discuss with civility and respect.
This is the third show in a series based on a collaboration between the Coffee Party & the documentary series, Story of America. Check here for other shows in the series.
