Lawrence Lessig has shown us how the political system we now employ is driven by the need to raise funds. In exchange, funders, not voters, have politician’s ears. He also points us to one of the big funding rackets: passion points that move people to give money, even money they cannot afford to give. The stronger the polarization, the bigger the cash cow. For example, right now, guns and abortion are colliding to produce the biggest payoffs for politicians, lobbyists and dark money we’ve seen in our lifetimes.
