    Protecting Children Before, During And After Disasters

         On Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 11:00AM (EST) Commissioner Bruce Lockwood, CEM, a member of the National Commission on Children And Disasters (established by the U.S. Congress under the provisions of the "Kids in Disasters Well-Being, Safety, and Health Act of 2007") visits the Code Red! show to talk about the work of the commission which reports directly to the President of the United States and the U.S. Congress.

         Many people are not aware of the extreme importance of certain issues involving children during disaster management planning and when disasters actually occur.  Topics such as child care facility emergency planning, mental health services, sheltering, long-term housing, availability and stockpile of pediatric medical countermeasures are extremely critical when disasters strike.  Fortunately, there are specific steps community leaders, stakeholders, activists and parents and guardians can take to help protect America's children before, during and after critical incidents.

         Commissioner Lockwood is an experienced Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and an active Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator and he'll be with us to share important insights that could help save lives and assist both children and adults in getting through natural and man-made disasters or critical incidents.
