Interview with Nancy Zwiers, CEO of Funosophy, Inc., largest toy marketing company

I believe it would be well worth your time to stop what you are doing to tune in to this interview with Nancy Zwiers on "Leading the Way to Success." In just 30 minutes she provides a well of information and insights about marketing, entrepreneurship and professional development.

I was trying to listen and take notes at the same time and may be misquoting but here are just two gems I wrote down. First, Nancy's definition of strategy: "the concentration of resources to attain a competitive advantage."

Second, she spoke about a format for persuasion in terms of preparing the soil for seeds. She said there are 5 essential steps in setting the context for persuading someone.

    1. Summarize the concept
    2. State the main idea
    3. Explain how it works
    4. Reenforce the importance, and
    5. Provide an easy next step.

Another pearl of wisdom was Nancy's approach to dodging the terrible two's with humor and play. She made everything a game with her daughter, then two and now thirteen and it worked pretty well. Now, Nancy says she is attempting to use the philosophy (or "funosophy") in the teenage years but says she is far from an expert on teenagers. Guess I'll have to have her back on the show in a few years to see how it went.

Some more exciting interviews are coming up, including entrepreneurs, marketers, a developer of a downtown loft among other things and a nutrition expert. Of special interest is an interview at 3 p.m. on August 11 with Caprice Young. Caprice was formerly the President of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board. Now she is President and CEO of the California Charter Schools Association. That is quite a leap and I will ask her to discuss that journey and the others that have made her such an impressive leader.

Thanks for reading the blog. Would love to hear your thoughts on leadership and your journey on the way to success.

    Best,

    Judy
