What Successful Women Have Learned along the Way: Hear nurse and musician, Laurae Lygre share insigh

Welcome to another Blog that is an adjunct to my weekly radio program, "Leading the Way to Success," which is also the name of my new book.  (orders@coachjudynelson.com)

The interview done on June 12, 2008 is another program you will not want to miss. (Go to www.blogtalkradio.com/coachjudynelson and visit Archives.) Laurae Johnson Lygre, a retired nurse extraordinaire and now a professional musician, shared parts of her amazing journey since high school. She was an absolute delight to talk with and as I mentioned on the air, the nearly 50 years since we'd last spoken, melted away in an instant.

Laurae and I sang together in highschool in several operettas including Showboat, Oklahoma and South Pacific. I was always in the back row of the chorus and I remember her as always out front in a starring role. Her voice had a lyrical quality that I can almost hear when I think back.

Proving once again that perception is the editor of reality, my version of the past and hers are quite different. What she remembers is that she did not get the starring roles but only minor parts--to her great disappointment. However, in the interview, she describes her path from there to a master's degree in nursing, a lovely family and her late life Certificate as a Music Professional.

I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about human services but this one I had never heard of. The focus of the certified program, as I understand it is to provide "music for healing and transion"--as in the transition through death. Acting on intuition and impulse, I used music to help my own mother transition 3 weeks before 9/11--and it worked miracles both for her and the entire medical staff. Now I learn that there is a national organization promoting this.

Well, I don't want to tell you every detail of the interview because it's much more impactful with Laurae telling it. I do want you to know about her current love and that is harp music. She is one of three members of a group called the Fleur de Lis Trio and they have a new CD out" "Music Among Friends." Featuring Laurae on the harp, her friends Ellen on the flute and Wendy on the cello, "Music Among Friends," is availiable by calling 800.858.2427.

I am honored that Laurae gave me permission to use the music as an introduction to my radio program, "Leading the Way to Success," so tune it to hear a sample soon.

"If I Knew Then...." Lessons on Success from Women Reuniting after 50 Years

Please join me on Thursday morning, June 12 to hear my conversation with Laurae Lygre, one of my highschool classmates who will be attending our gigantic 65th birthday party in Minnesota in July. Laurae lives in Ellensburg, Washington and is 1/3 of a performing Trio in which she plays the harp. She'll be talking about her successes and what would be different if she knew then what she knows now. Don't miss it!

  • Date / Time:

"If I Knew Then..." A Series on Reflections of Wiser Women on their paths to success

This series, If I Knew Then... is turning out to be an extremely fun experience. Not only will I be able to reconnect with many of my high school buddies but I am getting a chance to interview them about their views on success. This adds to the learning I get from working with the fabulous people who are my clients in my Executive Coaching business.

On Thursday, June 12, I have a special treat. Laurae Johnson Lygre was one of my favorite people when growing up in Grand Forks, North Dakota in the 1940's and 1950's. A kind, gentle and very caring person, Laurae and I sang together in church choirs from as far back as I remember. There was one rather significant difference, however. I sang with the altos on the back row of the risers and she stood out front, singing solos in the most gorgeous and rich soprano voice imagineable. I can still hear her in my mind. Now, she and two fellow musicians have started a trio. Laurae plays the harp, another plays the flute and I'm not even sure of the third instrument.

Having tackled the harp myself, a small Celtic harp, it seems we have yet one more interest in common--again with one tiny different. Laurae performs at weddings, conferences and other events. I learned how to play one barely recognizable song: "3 blind mice," which I performed once to 75 abused and neglected six to twelve year olds. Now, my beautiful harp sits on a window sill near my desk. It's only function is to make me remember and smile.

I'm so anxious to talk with Laurae and learn about her journey on the road to success--and what she's learned along the way.

Speaking of success, you can order your advance copy of my new book, "Leading the Way to Success," by writing to Orders@coachjudynelson.com

    Until next time,

    Best,
