Go from Doormat to Diva

Join me with my special guest Merci Miglino and she shares her tips and tricks for going from Doormat to Diva. PERHAPS SINATRA SAID IT BEST: I've been a puppet, a poet, a pirate, a pauper, a pawn and yes, a king - better known as a writer, spokesperson, team builder, communications director, political campaign manager, and mat pounder for some of New York's most influential political leaders. It comes naturally. Being the eldest daughter of nine children, I was drafted by my parents to make things happen - to motivate a divergent group toward a common goal and to persist even in the face of impossible challenges. Talk about mat pounding! When was the last time you tried to get eight children to do housekeeping while competing with every distraction from the TV to the telephone? These skills proved most valuable in the rough and tumble world of New York State politics. Often the only woman in the room, dealing with opposing interests in a downright hostile and tense environment, I relied time and time again on my intuitive ability to figure out 'what's in this for them, where is the common ground, and how can I get them there?' Armed with this ability, I served as Director of Communications for both houses of the New York State Legislature and as chief of staff for a prominent New York City congressman. During this time, I also ran multi-million dollar campaigns involving candidate recruitment, polling, planning, electronic media, web site, direct mail, phone banking, fundraising, field operations, and candidate/staff coaching.
