February 10,2011 Johnnie "Coconut" Woodruff With the help and inspiration from raw foods, Johnnie “Coconut” Woodruff has managed to complete his transformation from a tobacco, drug and alcohol-filled life to one of love, gratitude, self-acceptance and spiritual healing. Without any formal culinary training or background, Johnnie has nevertheless produced two eBooks sharing his secrets and wonderful recipes. Johnnie’s awareness of raw food and his journey began back in 2009. Since that time he has increasingly become known throughout the community through his first book, his web site, and his informative (and hilarious) videos, which have earned him a nomination for “Funniest Raw Male” in the Best of Raw 2010 awards. With his second eBook - and sparkling personality -Johnnie is certainly sure to remain a well-liked and respected figure when it comes to raw food preparation. Johnnie’s first eBook, “A Walk on the Raw Side: Better Living through Living Foods” chronicled his life’s journey and transition to healthier choices and eating habits and featured his favorite recipes. His latest eBook, “Desserts in the Raw” focuses on raw vegan dessert recipes that are healthy and mostly diabetic friendly. The recipes are also gluten-free, soy-free, and cruelty-free. The book is visually stunning and the photographs will have your mouth watering. Johnnie’s goal is to prove that you don’t have to compromise style and class, or sacrifice taste and simplicity, in order to indulge your soul with phenomenal nutrition. And just like you don’t need to be Italian, Mexican or Jewish to prepare and enjoy ethnic cuisine, you don’t need to be a raw vegan to enjoy these easy to make tasty treats. That’s the beauty of Johnnie’s approach. Whether one is a 100% raw vegan, or simply wanting to experiment and expand their food horizon, the book works for them. Johnnie lives in Portland, Oregon with his partner David and their “canine child”, Karma Sue.
