John Bland is now entering his fifth season as the head coach for the Patriots having finished the 2009 campaign 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the Mid-South Conference East Division. Bland's Patriots brought home the Mid-South Conference East Division Championship and earned their third consecutive play-off berth. Fifteen players were named to All-Conference teams, eight being 1st TeamAll-Conference players, including the MSC East Defensive Player of the Year, and the MSC East Freshman of the Year. Five players were named CollegeFanz All-Americans. Six players were named to the MSC All-Academic Team and three were also listed as NAIA Academic All-Americans. One individual record was broken, two individual records were tied, and Cumberlands was able to keep the legendary "Brass Lantern" from their win against Union College for the fourth consecutive year. In addition, Bland was named yet again the MSC East Coach of the Year. Bland's overall record is now 33-11 as head coach of the Patriots and 38-16 overall.
