"Doctor Fred Says..." Today, Dr. Fred Valdes is speaking with Barbara Southard. Their topic is: "Doing What Comes Naturally".
Barbara is currently working for Health Solutions as part of a team providing health promotion services to other companies in the United States and abroad. Previously, she was the co-owner of Health Management Consultants, a research firm that developed grant-funded, Internet-based, disease management programs for cardiac rehabilitation, medication compliance, weight management, and childhood obesity prevention. Each program was associated with a clinical trial, resulting in several published, peer-reviewed journal articles.
Barbara has also worked as a Community and Inpatient Health Educator, a Manager of a cardiac rehabilitation program, a Research Director for a hospital, a Registered Nurse in the acute care setting, and as a School Teacher for an elementary public school.
Barbara’s education includes a Masters in Community Health from Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA), a Masters in Nursing Education from Jefferson College of Health Sciences (Roanoke, VA), a BS in Nursing from Radford University (Radford, VA), and a BA in Early Childhood Education from SUNY (Stony Brook, NY).
Originally from New Orleans, Barbara is now living in Bradford, NH, where she and her husband are restoring a home that was badly damaged in a fire and left vacant for seven years. Their dream is to turn it into a retreat where people can learn to grow their own food, cook healthy meals, and enjoy an active lifestyle.
Dr. Fred Valdes is a resident of Florida and at present is teaching part-time at a medical school near Miami. His respect of Moringa has led him to join with Zija Int'l and Club Moringa.
