Today's show focuses on The Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. The time: 1965. A Black man was pulled over for suspected drunk driving while his immediate family members were present. Somehow in the presence of onlookers, fights between his family and police erupted. Rumors of the LAPD kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach and beating a Black man ignited tension between the growing crowds and the LAPD. The Watts neighborhood became a warzone for the next 6 days, but the question remains: HOW did tensions between Watts citizens and the LAPD escalte into one of the most severe riots in the history of Los Angeles.

Joyce Ann Gaines: 49 Years Later
