Author, lecturer, naturalist, photographer, and traveler… The extraordinary life and career of Richard Modlin has enabled him to experience parts of the world that many can only dream of. As a retired professor and marine/freshwater biologist, Richard has studied ecological systems in some of the most fascinating places that Earth has to offer. Richard’s travels include trips to Africa, Europe, North and Central America, along with countless islands in the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Mediterranean Sea.

With over seventy published scientific and natural history articles, Richard shared his research on marine and freshwater invertebrates. After retiring, Richard took some time to continue traveling with his wife. Within a few years, Richard decided to follow his lifelong desire to become an author and share his wonderful accounts about his travels and experiences across the world.

Richard’s debut work was the 2002 release of Malachite Lion: A Travel Adventure in Kenya. In this non-fictional book, Richard shares the accounts of his unplanned solo journey through Kenya and the Seychelles Islands.

Modlin’s next non-fictional work, Chasing Wings: Birding Exploits and Encounters is a birdwatchers dream as Modlin shares many different personal encounters with birds from a wide variety of locations. Released in 2008, Chasing Wings was nominated as a finalist by ForeWord Magazine 2008 Book of the Year in nature writing.

Recently, Modlin completed his debut fictional novel set for release this summer. Modlin describing his new novel says, “Newfound Freedom is about two English brothers that experience a perilous Atlantic crossing and become embroiled at the beginning of the American Revolution.
