    Clarkston Business Association-October 17, 2008, Friday

    REC reporting here,

Greetings fellow citizens of this great City of Clarkston and surrounding areas...

About the City of Clarkston, Georgia (as taken from their website, www.cityofclarkston.com and other sources)

    1. Established in 1882, Clarkston is a city in Dekalb County Georgia.
    2. Commuting citizens accounted for much of Clarkston’s early growth. (One of the South's first "suburbs"
    3. City of Clarkston is approximately 700 acres or 1.1 square mile
    4. Pop. approx. 7200 at 2000 Census
    5. Because of the 1990's refugee resettlement program, Clarkston became home to displaced persons from around the globe.
    6. By the 2000's half the population of Clarkston consisted of people from other countries
    7. Clarkston High School boasts students from more than 50 different countries
    8. The Clarkston Woman's Club is the third oldest woman's club building in the state of Georgia and is freshly renovated and available for events. Haven't seen it but heard it has a full kitchen and that the renovation was quite successful.
    9. Milam Park, 7.6 acres, was the first public park in Dekalb County and has pavilions, tennis courts, fields, pool, playground and more to serve the citizens of Clarkston. It's a great park and I've been there a few times. Sits right behind 40 Oaks preserve and their is soccer and baseball teams playing. Haven't personally been in the pool.
    10. In 2002 the City of Clarkston designated Friendship Forest as a public space boasting over 15 acres of trees, fields and wildlife. In 2003 it was renamed Friendship Forest and dedicated to providing a wildlife refuge. This is a great place to ride your bike, take your pet on a leash or wander into a lush paradise on foot right in your neighborhood. It's always degrees cooler in the Forest and the stillness is quite beneficial for the body and spirit. I'm not sure what is going on with its upkeep or what the plans are for Friendship Forest.
    11.  Milam Dog Park grand opening! October 18, 2008.
    12. The bike/walking trail runs through Clarkston along the railroad tracks. The trails are beautiful and clearly marked with a number of friendly walkers and bikers. It's a great place to go for your morning/evening exercise. Bring the kids with their roller blades, skateboards and bikes. Have a family outing.
    13. Clarkston Community Center serves the community as a center for recreational and educational programs and social events. Newly renovated it is home to a state of the art sound system available in the auditorium complete with elevated stage. Clarkston Community Center . This is a beautiful center and I encourage everyone to come by and check it out and the programs we offer. Or perhaps you are interested in offering a program there?
    14. Home to central campus of Georgia Perimeter College and Technical College
