TUNE into Civil Alert on the night of Juneteenth - June 19th as we bring forth a new segment titled Ancestral Spotlights where we connect the spirit/memoir of historical figureheads with the present voice of their descendants. Tonight, Lynne M. Jackson will shed light and discuss Dred & Harriet Scott’s life, and their plight to correct their slave status. She will also share light about the Dred Scott Foundation which is very active in keeping the legacy of her great great grandparents present.

In the historical case Dred Scott v. Sandford 1857 - #60 U.S. 393, the main issue was “status”.  The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that people of African descent brought into the United States and held as slaves (or their descendants, whether or not they were slaves) were not protected by the Constitution and were not U.S. citizens.  Download the PDFs of the case syllabus and judge opinions here.

This show is a must for anyone that:

  • Studied the Dred Scott case
  • Wants to gain insight.
  • Has questions or insight about the current "status" of Blacks.
  • Seeks to connect their children with a direct history source.

Commentary and analysis to follow with Sabir Bey and Taj Tarik Bey.

We look forward to connecting with you. All questions and comments are welcome. Like always, have your pen and paper ready.
