Within the "community" of the church world, we keep hearing phrases like, "seed", "sowing and reaping", "planting seed", and for the most part, they are all pointing to the act of giving money into a person or ministry.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the believer giving of themselves, their time, and possessions to help other ministries or their fellow brethren, for that is what Christ has commanded us to do. If we see our brother in need, it is up to us to make sure that need is met. However, there seems to be an over emphasis on giving, planting, and seeding with this notion of giving to get back, which makes your giving equivalent to the lottery.
Should our giving be focused on the return from giving? Or should we be focused on the spirit of giving?
