Ron:
This is a question many people have asked. I would venture to say that no one knows the answer with absolute certainty. Some people have speculated that it's possible that snakes did talk then. If not, it's possible that Satan captivated her so much she didn't realize how absurd or wrong this was. I guess this is another question many people will be eager to ask God when we finally meet Him face to face.
Bob Mercer:
Because, at that time, everything was good so Eve thought, but Lucifer (satan) was alive and well with his cunning, deceitful and deadly way. Satan was smooth in his deceitful way to get Eve to disobey God's commandment. Unfortunately for mankind, Eve fell for satan's deceit and mankind has paid the price ever since until Yeshua, the son of God and King of Kings, returns to earth with all his glory and righteousness.
Ann-Louise:
God created the animals differently than we see them today. What we see is a limitation of all they were intended to be as a result of the fall and sin's curse. The lion lay down with the Lamb (and will again when Yeshua sits upon the throne in Jerusalem), bees did not sting, mosquitoes didn't bite and the serpent had legs and never struck a human while in Eden. So, why not talking animals? Do we not serve a God who appeared in the midst of a burning bush that was not consumed? He is the God who did (and still does) change the hearts of kings; who parted seas so His people could cross on dry ground; who made the sun stand still; who defeated and destroyed Jericho without a single arrow shot; He is the God who rained down fire and brimstone from heaven; He is the God who became a man and who turned water into into wine, healed the sick and raised the dead. He is the God who gave His own life, shedding His own blood for our redemption. (Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!) He is the God who could not be held in a mere grave. He is the God who is alive forevermore, worthy of all our praise! People will believe all of that, yet doubt that He has the ability to create animals with the power of speech??!! How do we respond to such disbelief over so comparatively small a thing for Him to do? I can think of only one response as I slap my forehead..."Oy vey!"
Kathy Lohr:
Eve knew God could do anything and everything.
Mark:
If Satan was present in the serpent, then he could have communicated to Eve the same way that he communicates tempting and lying thoughts to our minds today, without physical speech. It's also likely that he demonstrated that the forbidden fruit was good to eat (and not fatally poisonous) by eating some as Eve watched, since Genesis 3 states that Eve "saw" that the tree was good for food.
Julianna:
Snakes still talk, if we have the ears to hear. There are professional "snake whisperers" (handlers) like the horse whisperer. Also, the idea is apparently credible enough that millions of people accepted it as possible (at least within fictional context) in the Harry Potter books. Catholics believe to this day that St. Francis talked with birds, so animal communication is not unheard of in religious communities.
Lionel :
Because it was the most radiant and beautiful creature Eve and Adam had ever seen.
Dr.Sha'Run D. Flouton :
Perhaps Eve was navie. Why did Adam also eat the forbiden fruit? He knew it was wrong. I believe they were sort of imature. G-d provided everything. They did not know conflict or anything other then sublime peace of G-d Almighty. Eve was not afraid. She did not know fear. I believe they did not really know right from wrong. There was no wrong. They knew that G-d said not to eat the fruit, but Eve was child like till, of course she bite the fruit. I'm just guessing. As for talking snakes,G-d must have allowed Satan in the garden. My question is why? Dr.Sha'Run
