    Date / Time:

April 18, 2009: Conversations with Christie - Jazz Saxophonist Timothy Reeves

Timothy Reeves, fresh, funky, inspirational, smooth, and soulful are a few words to describe the style of this young musician. Born and raised in the Metro Detroit Area, Tim has been exposed to the vast array of musical influences in a city that breeds great music. His style reflects the Motown and R&B sound that is synonymous with this great city.

Inspired by his pastor, a former jazz recording artist, Tim began playing the saxophone at the age of thirteen. He started perfecting his skills throughout middle and high school, as well as in many church services. Soon thereafter, Tim became a member of the gospel jazz group ‘4U’.

As the leader of this group, Tim Reeves began to flourish as a saxophonist. 4U did many local events, most notably the Motor City Praise Fest for five consecutive years beginning in 1994. They were also featured at the Gospel Music Workshop in Cleveland, Ohio. During his tenure with 4U, Tim was afforded the opportunity to open for various gospel-recording artists such as, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Ben Tankard, and Douglas Miller.

Tim Reeves has also played and recorded with Michael Brooks the leader of the Detroit based community choir Young Artist for Christ, as well as William Murphy and the Shekinah Glory Singers. These experiences and exposures have forged a sound that is a mix of smooth jazz, contemporary gospel, neo-soul, and R&B.

In short, Tim’s sound is “Something Special “.
