  • The Grip of Lions and Veils with Audra Grace Shelby

    in Christianity

A terrorist. Two hostages. A desert lair in Yemen. The stage is set for a transfixing, fact-based, yet fiction novel, The Grip of Lions and Veils. Author of Behind the Veils of Yemen, missionary-author Audra Grace Shelby weaves a mesmerizing tale of danger and deception. Gleaning from her own real-life experiences as an American woman whose missionary family was called to Yemen, this reality fiction is real enough to be grippingly true, but fictional enough to be highly entertaining. With terror hurtling through the Middle East, especially Yemen, Shelby's latest book is both timely and Insightful .

  • God’s Own Literal Children

    in Christianity

Scripture reveals that all people have descended from the first two human beings, Adam and Eve. We are their extended family. Through direct creation in God’s likeness, Adam was a son of God (Luke 3:38; compare Genesis 5:1-3). Therefore, since we are descended from Adam, we are also children of God. God is our Father because He fathered our first human father. As Acts 17:28-29 tells us, “We are the offspring of God.” But God’s purpose goes far beyond the creation of mortal, perishable human beings. He is in the process of fashioning and forming “a new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17), fathering His own spiritual children—immortal and incorruptible children imbued with His very nature and character.

  • Growing to Spiritual Maturity

    in Christianity

“Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection” (Hebrews 6:1).
Correctly understanding the scriptural truth that the Holy Spirit is God’s power that can transform our lives helps us better understand His purpose and will for us. Paul wrote that “we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ” (Ephesians 4:15, NRSV). He also said, “Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature” (1 Corinthians 14:20). This growth process involves....

  • The Promise of a Coming Kingdom

    in Christianity

“And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever” (Daniel 2:44).
We have seen that Jesus Christ and the apostles preached the gospel—the good news—of the Kingdom of God. But exactly what is that Kingdom? There are many ideas about the Kingdom of God. Some think it is the church. Others believe it is an ethereal concept that resides in the hearts of Christians. Some think it is the collective good of humanity. What does the Bible say?

  • The Gospel of Jesus Christ: Salvation in the Kingdom

    in Christianity

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes . . .” (Romans 1:16).
We have seen that Jesus Christ preached “the gospel of the Kingdom” and that He sent His disciples out to proclaim His message before His crucifixion. However, after Christ’s death and resurrection, another emphasis appeared in the message preached by the apostles, one that had not been possible before Christ’s death— Jesus Christ had paid the penalty for human sins! In doing so, He had become the Savior of all who would accept His sacrifice and live the Christian life.
