I love the scriptures!!!
God has given the people the instructions on how they are to live there daily lives and interact with one another. The "contract" is confirmed by the symbolism of the atonement. Then the people are tested as Moses goes into the mountain. One might say that Moses is tempted as well and taught about his service to mankind before God, no matter what the actions of the people are.
Christ now knows what he must ultimately do. He teaches the disciples and prepares them but they cannot comprehend. Then we hear of the great humanness of the disciples as they discuss who among them is the greatest. So comparison was very prevalent then as it is now. We'll find out in Mark what the Lord has to say.
