I really do love the scriptures! Review: My heart is so full at reading these last words of a loving father (Lehi) to his son Joseph. He shares with him the witness of the power, strength, and sureness of the promises of God to our father Abraham.
I understand that the language can seem confusing. Most of us are not used to looking at the world from the perspective of two or three thousand years. But this was not an uncommon thing among the Israelites. Lehi brought in the fathers of the past...Joseph of Egypt and Moses and then he spoke of a latter day Joseph to his son whom he had named Joseph. Tying people together from many generations distant he testifies we too are part of this tapestry of children of God that will be able to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, hope not only in the life after death but in the life we walk day by day, here and now. Is the path always clear? Lehi spoke of the faith that people would have when this book came forward and they did but they were challenged continually. We, too, can expect challenges, different ones perhaps but ones just as deadly as the ones that tempted and attacked the early saints when Joseph Smith JR first brought this work out or any other time. This can be reason for rejoicing and bring comfort as we see that God knows the challenges we face in each dispensation or era or time and he has prepared a way for us to accomplish the thing we were sent here to do. Faith, hard work, and diligence are necessary, knowing when we think we have given all that we have that the Lord will ask for that much more. It is for our good and for the good of those who follow that he asks this and those who are faithful will be richly blessed. I have no doubt. I have so many blessings in my own life. And it is not because everything is okay rather it is the witness of the Holy Ghost because I am giving my all to know and do his work. That is the blessing of God to his children. It is our heritage.
