I love the Scriptures!!! Review: What does the meeting and courtship of Jacob and Rachel help us to consider? What are the customs and social norms of our society? Are they from God or from man? Are they healthy or do they confuse and bind us? I believe that the scriptures are alive. I believe they are meant to allow us to question and to seek answers from within ourselves so that we can grow and become better people day by day. Next time we talk about the trickery of his father in law. Jacob was a man of trickery or craftiness himself was he not? He had taken the birthright from his brother when he was so very hungry and he had taken the blessing of his father with the help of his mother as well. Yet in these things we understand that God's purposes were fulfilled. Can happen in our lives as well? Do we "break the rules" of tradition to fulfill higher goals? Is it all right to do those kind of things just because we want to? I think these are reasonable questions. They may not be very easy to answer, but I believe they are reasonable to ask. Lets watch the developement of this story and family and see if there will yet be clues that will give us insight to life here on earth as God would have us live it. In Matthew we found Christ and the disciples discussing the way that Jesus taught. "Every plant that my father hath not planted shall be rooted up." I believe that we are but embrios of life, even in our adult form here we are not "mature" in my opinion. It is the seed of hope in Christ that must be planted within each of us. Some may not know his name but they live his principles as they seek for fulfillment and virtuous lives among their own and toward their neighbor. If true virtue and honesty is not from where we grow we will not have the life we could have had on the other side of death. What goes out of the mouth of man testifies of who he is. It tells us of his heart. Where is my heart, what do my words tell?
