I love the scriptures!!! Review: Abraham's servant is given permission to take Rachel. I find it of great interest to consider the attitudes and behaviors of these people. They seem to "recognize" their own and they have no problem serving God and his goals immediately. I found the fact that this woman covered herself with a veil as her betrothed approached which is totally the opposite of what we do today in courtship. I think it is worth pondering and considering as we think of the way that we relate and interact with one another. Isaac taking Rachel to the tent of his deceased mother suggests something of the relationship between he and his mother and his respect, love, and need of her as well. The world today does all it can to criticize and seperate families on many fronts. Intreat was a word that has some fascinating impact to me. It is a word that we no longer use in todays vencular but it was used not only from Isaac to God but in return from God to Isaac. Looking at Matthew we are reading of the Lord's explanation of the parable of the sower of the seed. We looked at the possible meaning of the root that is needful in a person if tribulation or persecution from the world (and that includes those close to us and even those who profess to be believers) is not to cause us to be offended and leave our course. It is vital to believe that one is worthy and deserving of the love, affection, and atonement that Christ offers. We must desire life and forgiveness if we are to partake of the gift that both Christ and our Heavenly Father offer us. The "deceitfulness of riches" coaxing us to believe that it is worldly comforts that give us comfort and lasting joy "choke the word". They pierce it and take the meaning and joy of the gospel completely away. Those who hear and bear fruit, that means act on what they hear will be added to in different amounts because we are all different. (also consistent w/the scriptures)
