Last month Colors of Class made a commitment to its listeners to dedicate our show to a topic that directly affects the African American community. We decided that this will be done on the second Thursday of every month. Tonight marks the debut of our commitment. This evening Colors of Class will have Mr. Othor Cain as a guest on the show. Mr. Cain is a radio personality on WJSU radio, where he serves as News Director and host of Jackson, Mississippi’s first radio newsmagazine show ‘Issues and Images.” and Mr. Cain also anchors a daily radio newscast ‘WJSU News Now and in addition, he also anchors a TV newscast for TV 23—Comcast Channel 14. This evening Mr. Cain will discuss the state of Mississippi by discussing the Budget Battle in Mississippi. Currently Mississippi's governor has proposed merging and/or closing some of the state's schools including its Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's). Mr. Cain will also discuss the fact that Mississippi ranks at the bottom of many prominent areas and ranks at the top of many bad lists such as being the most obese state in the nation and leading the nation in teen pregnancy and HIV/AIDS and STD's amongst teens. Mr. Cain is tirelessly working with a coalition of others to defeat the governor's proposal and he needs to take this issue to a national level. This is a very serious issue that needs to be heard by everyone. When a state begins to talk about closing schools and when the teenagers in that state lead the nation in pregnancy and HIV/AIDS and STD's this is definitely a crisis. I am asking my listeners, to not only log on, listen and join in, but to also spread the word about tonight's topic. This is a show not to be missed.
