Black church folk dictionary... Current mood: amused Category: Religion and Philosophy Anointing: Used to describe any non-regular emotion (crying in the middle of a song when you forget the words, telling the church off (particularly when its over tithes and offering), doing the Olympic shout around the church (first one that hits the wall gets a white hanky tied around their neck!) Trick of the Enemy: Used to describe anything that happens because you didn't do what you were supposed to, like your car getting repossessed cause you didn't pay the note, lights getting shut off cause you quit work to go on tour with the pastors choir, or your child repeating the first grade cause he missed the whole second semester to go on a 90 day/90 night fast and consecration. Rhema Word: Any message from an out-of-town pastor or evangelist. Prophetic Word: Same message from that out-of-town pastor, delivered 5 decibels louder, while the congregation is standing. Quiet organ music optional, but works better with silence. Carnal: Used to describe a saint who goes to the movies. This term doesn't apply if you rent the same movie from Blockbuster. Didn't God Move?: What saints say after a long service where the pastor doesn't preach and they just shout the whole service. Unlock Your Blessing: What preachers say after they've finished preaching, and they say you must give $50 to "unlock your blessing." For a more dramatic effect, this offering can be started at $1,000 and worked down to $25. He'll Do It If You Let Him (followed by inaudible tongues): Round one of shouting; will begin in 5 minutes . Organist get ready. We Got To Move On: What the preacher says when he wants shout time to start up again. Organist, turn up the volume on the Leslie. We Have Time for One More Testimony: Not really, we're just waiting on the pastor to come into service. If you're called on during this one, when you hear clapping, just stop talking, cause the pastor has walked in and people are no longer interested in what God did for you. We Can Never Pay for the Word: Get your checkbook out, the auction will begin momentarily! This phrase always comes before the offering is taken for the guest speaker. God Has Been Dealing with Me on Some Issues: I'm still doing what I was doing before I got saved, only now I just put in an extra $5 in my offering when I do it. Is He Worthy?: Of course He is; why ask a question like that. Let Us Go To God in Our Own Way: This is what you say when they ask you to pray in church and you don't know what to say. Get Ready, Get Ready, Get Ready!!!: Don't really know what this one means, but if you're not careful, a shout could break out when you say it. It must be said three times to have real impact. I Can't Get No Help: Preachers say this when no one says amen in the spot they thought would get a lot of amens. I'm Blessed and Highly Favored: Said when a fellow saint asks "how are you?" Memo to saints: you CAN be saved and answer "fine" when someone asks how are you. Where The Spirit of The Lord is, There is liberty: Whenever you want to disrupt service and holler out when it's quiet, use this statement to justify your behavior. Get Ready To Go To The Next Level: This means the church will be hosting another revival in a few months. Stand To Your Feet : This gives the illusion that the preacher is finished, but be prepared to stand up for at least 1/2 hour. May be cut to 15 minutes if the organist starts playing softly. Give God a Shabach: Scream to the top of your lungs. Some church members may blow whistles and wave flags as well. Every Head Bowed, Every Eye Closed: Quick! Everyone look around to see who's getting saved again this week. Secular: Any person, place, object or event that's not in the church. The "Yes Lord" Song: Signals the official end to shout time. Anyone still shouting when this song is over is considered to be "in self". In Self: Used to describe someone who acts alone in church. For example, someone who is shouting alone. Add two more people to this display and its called... In The Spirit: When three people are doing the same thing in a church service at the same time. Prayer Partner: Phone buddy. 5 minutes of prayer, 1 hour of church gossiping

In his first book for adults, the NAACP award-winning, New York Times Bestselling Hill Harper sparks honest dialogues about the crisis in African American relationships. Only 34% of African-American children today are raised in two-parent households. That is down from 1966, when 85% of black children were raised by two parents. Harper brings a variety of issues out of the shadows in THE CONVERSATION: How Black Men and Women Can Build Trusting Relationships (Gotham Books, September 8, 2009; $20.00) see www.theconversationonline.com

YES YOU CAN HAVE DRAMA FREE RELATIONSHIPS! Whether you are struggling in your marriage, dating situations, friendships or business relationships, you can have peaceful, productive and fulfilling relationships. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE THAT RELATIONSHIPS HAVE TO BE DIFFICULT! In her 2 bestselling books, Relationship Reruns & How To Deal With A Difficult Woman, Relationship Realist & Lifestyle Enhancement Coach Tanya White gives you the secrets you need to find rest from your relationship mess! CLICK HERE TO RECEIVE THE PEACE YOU HAVE BEEN LONGING FOR!
The relationship forecast looks especially bleak for a large majority of African American women.
According to the New York Times 70% of Black women are not married and 42.3% have never been married.
Compared to 57% of Whites only 34%of African Americans wed, and by the tenth year nearly half of those marriages are over.
White women, Hispanic women and even more Black men marry than Black women.*
This data has some single Black females worried about whether they will ever jump the broom, does Black love have a chance anymore, and if so will they find a love that lasts?
Relationship Coach Vince Hudson’s answer is a firm “yes” to all of the above! Hudson is the Marketing Director for Cover Girl Cosmetics, North America. He is convinced that experiencing a healthy relationship is possible beyond fantasy land. All a girl (or guy) really needs to succeed in the relationship market, he believes, is a mental make-over and a little brand focused strategy to attract and keep the man of her dreams.
After years of listening to complaints from friends, drifting through articles about split-ups and the raging divorce rate in America, coupled with personal experience, Hudson surmised that, just as products that don't live up to the claims on their label fail, people will never find their soul mate as long as they are presenting a false image of who they are.
He’s confident that women should be optimistic about holy matrimony in their future plans because throughout his successful career he has consistently seen strategic thinkers win.
“The ladies at my job,” -- most of them professional, in or approaching their thirties and never before married -- “were constantly asking me about relationships and I began to notice these patterns. I started to explain things to them in marketing terms, telling them that they are the brand and their light bulbs went off,” the 16-year marketing vet shares about how he got started. As rapper Jay Z's self-proclaimed biggest fan, he too has a way with words, so he decided to "break it down" in those terms to the masses.
What a girl wants
In a market over-saturated with women, honing a competitive edge is crucial. To do so, Hudson emphasizes the importance of delivering brand clarity and at seminars imparts a 4-step process that applies basic marketing principles to assist singles in quickly assessing and eliminating potential time-wasters.
Do you really know what you want in a man? More importantly, do you know what you don’t want in a man? A woman’s mind, heart and mouth must be synchronized in order to get the results she desires in any situation, including the area of love and relationships. As a relationship coach Hudson emboldens women to look into the mirror of introspection, determine what they want and need in a man and to make sure that the image they project communicates their expectations. That’s brand clarity. She must also understand the true definition of love, found in the Holy Bible (1 Corinthians 13). Missing this piece of the puzzle—not knowing the meaning of love-- is one of the top reasons hearts are broken.
What a girl needs (and how to get it!)
Here are some of Hudson’s tips on avoiding relationship pitfalls to take you into this season of love and romance refreshed:
Q: What is the #1 thing a woman must know about her personal brand to be effective in the marketplace of love?
A: She has to ask herself what is my point of advantage in the point of difference. In other words, why would anybody care about me vs. another brand?
Q: What do women need to do to attract the right men?
A: You gotta think about it like business and have a strategy. Being strategic is more important than anything. Girls that are strategic will always win over girls that aren’t which is why Microsoft came out of nowhere on IBM and Apple came out of nowhere on Microsoft. Maximizing your demand in the market is really what it comes down to.
Q: What mistakes do women consistently make in relationships?
Most women that I observe do either of two things:
1. They make poor choices and that’s getting all wrapped up in men that aren’t all wrapped up in them.
2. They decide: I’m giving up and I’ll let fate take its course.
In business neither one of those strategies has ever worked.
Q: How can a woman find and maximize her demand with the man of her dreams?
A: It’s not about you being smart, beautiful, witty or rich. It’s about you being strategic and that means nothing more than making the best decisions to get the most happiness for your brand on the market. Michael Franks has a song that says what good is a song if it ain’t in my key? He’s gotta be as into you as you are into him and if it’s not mutual to the point that the connection is divine, then that’s not your soul mate. You gotta de-select those who are not the one to increase to odds of finding the one. When you narrow down your options you’ve got a greater chance of connecting with the right person.
Q: What is the question a woman must ask to ensure that she is targeting likely prospects?
A: What is the key benefit I desire or the thing I’m looking for in a mate that will help me de-select others? Get the stuff you know won’t work out of the way.
They may also need to get a proper definition of what a relationship is. It’s more than that feeling and those butterflies; love is beyond the butterflies and the bling. Those things are necessary but not sufficient, because they don’t sustain.
