The Shelter Child Care Center

Siobhan Travers is the owner and lead teacher at The Elk Children's Center in Marin, CA. Siobhan stated her center is 1 of 4 centers in the nation that are shelter child care centers.  http://littleshelterpreschoolthatcan.wordpress.com/

In the Nez Perce culture ELK means edurance, perserverance, and inner strength. In a community shelter meant to house children for 3-4 weeks at a time, due to past economy that went to several years. 4 great souls got the idea of organizing a percentage of the 272 children under 12 years to have a real intermediate preschool/childcare/afterschool program.

Siobhan will also give helpful hints to the 20-something aged parents who might find themselves and children in shelters.
