Unveiled

I think it can go both ways. Hip hop deprives the urban culture when the youth are involved. Too many time our young people listen to what they see on tv or hear on the radio and take it to heart. When they don't have parents or role models in their lives to tell them that's entertainment these rappers, actors, and athletes become their role models. Many times they grow up thinking that's the way of the world. Often these rapper's promote sex, drugs, and crimes in their songs and fail to mention the consequences of their actions. Many rappers say they didn't become famous to be a role model but they don't understand that's the territory that comes with the title. It deprives us when girls and women think its okay to dress like they have no respect for themselves because they see it on tv. When a song talks about being a ride or die chick, a bad bitch, or a superfreak that becomes their them song. Females automatically think that song is about them. When a song talks about degrading women, being a player, or a gangster men live by that song. I know many rappers say they speak what they know, but is there anything else to talk about. If someone lived in Nowhereville, Idaho where there were no black people, all they would know is what they see on tv. When you put yourself in the public its important to think about the image you want people to recieve you as. The hip hop attitude has made it hard for people of color to obtain jobs, live in certain areas, and just live life because of the stereotypes. One bad apple spoils a bunch.
On the other hand, hip hop has paved the way for urban culture. It has given people of color a sense of pride. I'm proud to see my brothers and sisters own businesses. I'm even prouder when they use their fame to help other people in need. That's the way its supposed to be. Hip hop has become so popular they it has influenced almost everything we know today. People of all origins have embraced hip hop as if it was their own culture. The hip hop culture has also become one of the most targeted audiences of the presidential election. Hip hop can be beautiful when use it to make a difference. It has showed the many talents of our people. It should be celebrated.
