Hill asked his friend what moved him the most during his deployment in lower Manhattan. His friend replied, "As we were getting ready to leave we were shaking the hands of the FDNY Firefighters we had worked with for 2 weeks--one firefighter grabbed my hand tightly--looked me straight in the eyes and said--PLEASE DON'T FORGET US." Those 4 words led Hill to begin a project that would work to get a 9/11 Tribute Patch on the uniformed sleeves of all firefighters across the country to help honor and remember the heroes of 9/11. Tune in as we broadcast LIVE from the Bensenville Public Library on September 11th as we visit with Brett Hill and look forward into the future of the 9-11 Patch Project. 00:30:00Chasing4Lifeno9-11,Patch Project,Brett Hill,Bensenville, courageApproximately 1 month after the tragic events of 9/11, Brett Hill (a South Pasadena Firefighter/Paramedic) met with a neighboring LAFD friend who had just retuThe voice of a survivorhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2012/02/21/the-voice-of-a-survivorEducationhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2012/02/21/the-voice-of-a-survivor/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2012/02/21/the-voice-of-a-survivorTue, 21 Feb 2012 04:00:00 GMTThe voice of a survivor We talk about disaster kits a lot on this show, but let's talk about SURVIVAL. And during a serious emergency, "first responders" -police, firefighters, paramedics- will be busy helping other people. That's why you need a disaster kit. To take care of your needs, and the needs of your loved ones, until help can arrive. We've chosen to visit with the folks from ReadyBox in this episode of the show because this is a company with insight into what you need to have in that disaster kit! Here at Chasing4Life we have believed for a long time you cannot simply buy a disaster kit but have to customize one for your needs.  ReadyBox is that great starter kit for the person-on-the-go, the family or the responder looking to start walking the walk and not just talking the talk when it comes to preparedness! A "poetic odyssey", this is a tale of nature's fury and man's strength. But most of all perhaps, it is about grief, loss, and how these shape a man's entire existence. What seems like a very personal journey for one man becomes an exploration of the soul for all mankind. James Buffin takes the audience from otherworldly disasters to places forever affected by them. He shows us sights that seem to be ripped from fairy tales, places that are frozen in time that still retain their beauty even after the ravages of nature. All of this comes together beautifully to weave a tale about how trauma can shape not just one life, but all life. Under the Big Cloud was started in 2009 as three different projects. The first one was with the Chasing4Life  storm chase team in and a series of coincidences led to two trips to Samoa, shooting with survivors of a tsunami. James then travelled as a volunteer to help them tell their own stories. Indonesia was April-May this year. But it wasn't until James covered the Toronto International Film Festival a magazine earlier this year magazine that he realized all three projects belonged together. We bring James to the radio show to share how he went from filmmaker to the subject of his own film and to answer the question everyone keeps asking: "What happened to the Chasing4Life movie?" 00:30:00Chasing4LifenoJames Buffin,Veritus Pictures,Under the big cloud,Disasters,TraumaJames Buffin's film "Under The Big Cloud" is not your everyday project. While emergency management agencies have many dilemmas facing them in a world wrought with disaster, the most daunting could be how to prepare the public BEFORE the disaster strikes. Disaster preparedness events are the name of the game here at Chasing4Life, but to the community that is trying to break the ice, where do you start? On this show we will be taking a look at the step by step process of how one county made the effort to reach their population from the youngest to the oldest and how their efforts paid off. We will be interviewing Chanay Ray, Administrative Assistant from the  Douglas County IL  Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and Coroner’s  Office. Douglas County has a lot of threats lurking behind the scenes so preparedness education was a high priority, but how to do it? Could it be done without disrupting all of the other projects in the County? Just back from the Chasing4Life Disaster Response Team's memorial trip to Joplin, we'll be taking a look back at 9-11 and how the terrorist attacks changed the way America reacts to threats. We'll be recognizing the men and women throughout our country that serve and have served to protect our way of life.   Our special guest will be patriotic sing/songwriter Eric Horner! After the attacks on 9-11, Eric recorded his hit "We Will Stand" with just his vocal and guitar in his production studio, and took it to WSM Radio in Nashville. That's all it took.  Within two weeks, "We Will Stand" was being played on every reporting country station in the country.  His website was over run with requests for the song which led Eric to donate the proceeds of the single to the Staten Island Victim's Relief Fund in NY. Eric also wrote and recorded the Chasing4Life theme song "They Are Americans" featured on our website.  The song has been used to raise funds for the Chasing4Life Disaster Response Team. 00:30:00Chasing4LifenoEric Horner,They Are Americans,9-11,Patriotic,FlagJust back from the Chasing4Life Disaster Response Team's memorial trip to Joplin, we'll be taking a look back at 9-11 and how the terrorist attacks changed theWhen a town can change your lifehttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2011/09/13/9-11-10-years-laterEducationhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2011/09/13/9-11-10-years-later/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2011/09/13/9-11-10-years-laterTue, 13 Sep 2011 03:00:00 GMTWhen a town can change your life This past week members of the Chasing4Life team went back to Joplin to participate in the 9-11 National Flag Ceremonies and to assist at MSSU in the Stars of Hope Campaign. 00:30:00Chasing4Lifenojoplin,severe weather, disaster, disaster response, educationThis past week members of the Chasing4Life team went back to Joplin to participate in the 9-11 National Flag Ceremonies and to assist at MSSU in the Stars of HIt's National Preparedness Monthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2011/09/06/its-national-preparedness-monthEducationhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2011/09/06/its-national-preparedness-month/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/chasing4life/2011/09/06/its-national-preparedness-monthTue, 06 Sep 2011 03:00:00 GMTIt's National Preparedness Month This night we'll be talking about National Preparedness Month! The month of September is supposed to be that month we all get better prepared. Why is it that less than 50% of Americans are making disaster plans? How do we integrate the message into our everyday lives? What can we do with our family? What measures can a business take? What are we supposed to be preparing FOR?  This show will cover it all! We are going to talk to one group doing all it can to make sure that National Preparedness Month stays alive all year with some MAJOR campaigns and effort.  We'll be visiting with Eric Brown, President and presiding Chairman of The Homeland Security Foundation of America.  The HSFA is a non-profit agency established to advance homeland security while preserving civil liberties through life-saving public safety, energy security and health and human services programs. 00:30:00Chasing4Lifenodisaster preparedness,National Preparedness Month, disaster, home disaster kit, ready campaignThis night we'll be talking about National Preparedness Month!
