Leroy F. Bennett

Leroy was born April 5, 1961 in Orange, New Jersey and is the son of Samuel and Dorothy Bennett.  He is attended the East Orange Public School District where he graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School.  Leroy attended Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma before returning home to take on a position with the Urban League of Essex County for four year as the Admission & Recruitment Director of their word processing and computer operations classes in Newark, New Jersey. 

He worked as a car salesman before moving to Columbia, South Carolina.  Once in Columbia, he sold cars for a year before taking a job as a disc jockey at radio station WKWQ/WKSO 93.1 &103.9 “The Double Touch” where he had the Sunday afternoon Jazz Plus show, “World Famous Johnny Green was his program director..  He’s also worked as a dj at WICI 94.9 in Sumter, WOMG 103.1 “Oldies 103” in Columbia where Tim Miller was his program director and at WMJC “Majic 93.1” also in Columbia.  He focused his career on pursuing his scholastic endeavors.  He enrolled at Benedict College where he majored in Child & Family Development and had worked in stage productions with the Benedict College Theater Ensemble. 

He is currently the founder of Up the way (Updaway) Productions where he has founded a theater group in Salisbury, North Carolina.
