Ashley became an alumni of foster care in 2005.
She is an outspoken advocate for the improvement of the foster care system in America and for better educational opportunities for foster youth everywhere. She interned for the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute with Senator Jim Demint (R-South Carolina) and the C4 Group on foster care and education related issues. She has made presentations for the Ways and Means Committee of the US House of Representatives, Casey Family Programs, and California Youth Connection.
