I was born and raised here in sunny California. My parents have an eclectic background in interests and careers. For example, my father was in the Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) in WWII and some years after, later played violin professionally, and finally, worked in the aerospace industry as an engineer.
I was raised in a multi-lingual environment in which Ukrainian was the main language in our household. While many of my relatives spoke Ukrianian, they knew other languages and would speak those languages. In addition, my parent's friends spoke other languages, which both my father or mother would be familiar with and thus, those languages, English, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish would be spoken in a random fashion in our household.
