Reviewing tonight's broadcast, I was a little disappointed that there were no live listeners. But I am encouraged through the word of God that my labor is not in vain in the Lord. Here is a tidbit that bears consideration in view of tonight's lesson and in preparation for next week. The Believer's Bible Commentary, states "We are to love God more than ourselves, and our neighbor as ourselves." This is a powerful statement. Can you imagine how much better the world would be if each of us followed this principle? If we loved God more than ourselves, we would tell everyone about him. We would be excited to be in his presence. And it would give us pleasure to do his will. In addition, if we learned to love our neighbor as ourselves, we would generate a new culture of reciprocity and respect, two items that have slowly eroded from society. We would also foster generosity to a greater degree. Now it is every man for himself, but the Bible admonishes us to be concerned about our neighbor. I want to encourage you today to begin reviving your relationships by being totally consumed with love for God and by remembering this word: "Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another." (Ephesians 4:25, NASB) (emphasis added). Now that is a thought that should put things in perspective. If we are part of the body of Christ, we are members of one another. Hurting your neighbor hurts you, and by the same token, blessing your neighbor blesses you. Take the opportunity today to become a good neighbor to those around you. It will pay dividends in the long run.
