My next guest, Barbara Blackstone, will take us into interesting territory--women and negotiation. After years of experience in public, private, non-profit, and academic settings, Barbara Blackstone created Blackstone Associates to focus on teaching women to speak up for themselves, overcome hidden obstacles, negotiate for their own needs and wants, and handle conflicts with confidence. A workplace pioneer, Barbara was one of the first women in several of the positions she has held, and she has made many of the mistakes that hold women back from negotiating for themselves. She is the former Director of the Office of Dispute Resolution for the State of Minnesota and currently is an adjunct instructor of negotiation and conflict management for Marylhurst University in Oregon. Blackstone holds a master’s degree in Urban Studies from Roosevelt University in Chicago. I choose to focus particularly on women for this show in order to go in depth into the value of negotiating because women are not taught to negotiate generally. So we will go deep into the very basics of negotiation. This show will benefit men and women both, giving insight into the need for everyday negotiation as a way of life.
