A tribute to a VISIONARY!
Backward turn backward oh, time in your flight, take us back to 1983 when Lynn Williams became head of the United Steel Workers Union in one of the worst decades in history for steel and steel workers in America. He was president of the U.S. Steel Workers from 1983 until 1994, a trying period for his industry.
Mr. Williams, Canadian born assumed control of a union that at 600,000 members was half the size it had been in 1979. In the next few years, he would steer members through rounds of layoffs, company bankruptcies and a six month work stoppage at U.S. Steel. Yet by the time he retired in 1994, he also added 100,000 new members to the Union Ranks.
